100 days of Handwritten Notes

Sometimes it's a quick hallway conversation that sparks something in you. I ran into a friend in the hallway at work the other day. As we chatted, I noticed she was carrying a bunch of cards to drop in the mail.

(I love pens, pencils, paper and cards. All of it. This stuff always catches my eye!)

I asked her about them and she mentioned she had challenged herself to send more handwritten notes. She smiled and told me how today's note was to the author of a book she had just finished. I could tell that she was really enjoying this simple, small, fun gesture.

And it inspired me to do the same.

Next Steps

I have 100 other things to do, but this effort struck me as something I should make a priority. My job is in the fundraising field and I send lots of handwritten notes already, and I always enjoy this part of the job. Why not take it a step deeper?

Since I love paper so much, purchasing 100 cards was the fun part. When I wrote my first one, I timed myself because I wanted to get a sense of time commitment. It took me less than one minute. I can give one minute of my day to this effort! Easily!

Then I bought 100 stamps. This will help me keep track and I won't fall to the excuse, "But I don't have any stamps."

A Deadline and a Goal

I love a deadline and I love a goal. So I made both. Accomplishing this goal is much more likely if I have both to drive me. I will write 100 handwritten notes in the next 100 days.

I can break this down however I would like. I can write ten in one day or I can write one each day, but the total must equal 100.

My Progress

The last few days I have been thinking about all the people that will get a note from me. I don't want it to just be my close friends. The joy of the handwritten note should be spread wider.

My hairdresser, someone who served me at the coffee shop, someone who might like a fun mail, my favorite musician, a fellow blogger that doesn't know me, my latest book obsession, etc. It's really fun to think about my options.

I will keep you updated on my progress. Who knows? I might really despise doing this or it might be the most fun experiment!
