Natural Decor for the Home (a beautiful and free option)

My child's preschool spurred my thinking. They use natural elements in the classrooms for some of their decor. For example, they have a net hanging from the ceiling and in the net you find pieces of bark, leaves, sticks, etc.

It strangley looks good, and it kept catching my eye.

I figured I could use this as well! The abundance of fall and winter pictures that inspire us could be brought indoors, right? Like all my gorgeous fall pumpkins and the pinecones that litter my backyard.

I decided to bring in those pine cones! I sent the kids out with a bag and asked them to fill it with pine cones. Once inside, we picked our favorites and pulled together our supplies.

Painter's tape (to secure to the fireplace)

This is an easy project. Really, I am not joking. I did this while handling two toddlers by myself (and having their help).

We held up the yard to see the length we needed and added a little extra to wrap around each pine cone (we guessed and it was fine each time) and cut the yarn.

Take the yarn and wrap it under the top layer. This will keep them from falling off. Then you repeat this process until you have enough. I made two strands. One that was sparsely populated and one with lots of pine cones. I liked them both for different reasons.

Then, you hang them and enjoy. I am currently working on our holiday decorating (and wrote this blog post while waiting for our tree to be delivered) and we are leaving them up and we've added them in small bowls throughout the house as well. Looks like we have a pine cone theme this year.

This has inspired us to use more nature in our home decor. Pics below.
