Fitness. Day 30. Lessons learned.

If you want something bad enough, you will work hard to achieve it, right?

That's what I keep telling myself. I haven't been as good as I imagined, but I have worked out more than I have the last four months. You have to take your wins where you can find them.

There is nothing like a looming race that will motivate me to work harder. I have a 5K mudventure coming up this Saturday so running this week will be important.

Let the little things matter.

Sometimes I am not able to get a full-blown workout accomplished, but I will sneak in other things. For example, I set aside an afternoon to hang out with a good friend at the pool. While lounging in the pool, I did various yoga excercises while chatting. That was something, and my legs felt good from the tension and stretching.

Sticking to my priorities

Sometimes our prorities converge. It's tempting to think that each priority is it's own silo. That they can't work together. But, they can.

There are so many priorities in life, and I know that health should be one of them (just like my marriage). Sometimes the little things can sabotage you or give you a new direction.

For example, the other morning my little one woke up when I was about to walk out the door. She wanted to join me for a run. So, I packed her up in the running stroller and took off.

She started insisting that I was going too fast. So, I had to walk to keep her from waking the neighbors with her demands. She also started singing songs from Frozen. Of course, I find this sort of this adorable. Most others do not.

Again, I have to take my wins where I can. At least I was able to get a short walk in, and I got to show her that working out is part of life.

I don't have to win the race.

My workout might have been short, but I don't have to win the race. I am only competing against myself.

I invested in myself. I set a goal. I am working toward it. I am making progress. It's doesn't all happen in just 30 days. This has to be a priority for life.
